Whether you're dropping in for a casual afternoon pint or settling down for a celebratory meal, The Anchor’s warm and inviting atmosphere makes every visit feel special.
The culinary offerings here are as diverse as they are delicious, showcasing an appetizer-to-dessert menu designed to satisfy a range of tastes. The Beacon dishes include classic Fish and Chips, perfectly crisped golden fillets served with fluffy chips, and hearty Sunday Roasts that consistently earn rave reviews for their tender, flavorful cuts—think succulent roast beef and savory pork belly croquettes that melt in your mouth. For those craving something a little different, the Porchetta and the Fillet Steak bring rich, indulgent flavors to the table, while chefs’ take on modern pub classics like the Bacon & Cheddar Burger and Fish Finger Brioche elevate familiar favorites with a gourmet touch.
The Anchor is also an excellent spot for lovers of BBQ and grilled delights. Their House Beef Burger and Smoked Brisket are smoky, juicy, and completely satisfying, with mouthwatering sides like fries and Caesar salad rounding out the plate. Vegetarians will delight in options such as the Beetroot Falafel Burger and Halloumi & Portobello Mushroom with chips—a colorful and flavorful alternative that never compromises on taste.
Drinks at The Anchor are thoughtfully curated to pair perfectly with their menu. From refreshing Pimm’s Cups and crisp Ciders to a fine selection of beers, every sip complements the rich, hearty food offerings. The dessert selection is the perfect finish, featuring indulgent Chocolate Brownies, creamy Rice Pudding Crumble, and luscious Cheese Cake that provide that sweet note to cap off an exceptional meal.
What truly elevates the experience at The Anchor is the genuine hospitality and attention to detail from its staff—something customers consistently highlight. From ‘attentive and accommodating’ service as Mandie Smith explains, who enjoyed a memorable anniversary with a glass of prosecco on the house, to Shannon Dalton’s stress-free experience celebrating a graduation with a large group, The Anchor clearly excels at making guests feel valued and well cared for.
The unique dining pods overlooking the river also add a special touch, allowing diners to savor their meal in a cozy, intimate setting without the chill of outdoor dining. Moira Marley’s experience of warmth, pleasant music, and impeccable service in one of these pods captures the comfortable yet lively ambiance that The Anchor effortlessly maintains.
Whether you’re planning a festive group lunch like Michael Bush’s walking group or a quiet catch-up with friends, The Anchor delivers on every front: impeccable timing, piping hot plates, and a festive, relaxed atmosphere. Just remember to book ahead—this gem fills quickly, especially on Sundays and special occasions.
In all, The Anchor is much more than just a restaurant and bar; it’s a vibrant community hub where impeccable British cuisine meets genuine warmth and care. With its riverside charm, carefully crafted menu, and stellar service, it promises an experience that keeps guests coming back time and again.
We had a pod overlooking the river, celebrating our anniversary. Very lovely. The staff were so attentive and couldn't do enough. We even got a free glass of presecco for our anniversary. Def won't leave it so long next time!
Visited Easter weekend. As always, incredible service, even more incredible food cooked to perfection. One of the best roasts I've ever had at a restaurant. You never feel rushed even on the busiest of days, highly recommend but book in advance
We celebrated a graduation at The Anchor on Saturday, March 29th, with a group of 28 family and friends, and I couldn’t have been happier with the experience. The staff were incredibly accommodating, providing us with our own area and even setting up the decorations we brought. Pre-ordering our food a week in advance made everything so easy and stress-free. The service was fantastic, and the food was excellent—everyone was really happy with their meal! I would highly recommend The Anchor to anyone looking to book a gathering with family or friends. A special thank you to Casey for being so helpful and always answering my questions—your support made the evening completely stress-free and so enjoyable!
We visited last Sunday as a Family and enjoyed the POD experience. The POD was warm and had music in it and made a very good experience of outside dining without the chilly air. The Food arrived warm and plentiful, the sides were a good portion. The service was impeccable. Totally enjoyed the whole experience and would highly recommend a visit to have a drink and relax or a lovely meal. Staff are very attentive. Great atmosphere, Great service.
We just had our walking group Christmas lunch for 25 people. Service was excellent and well organized. Food came out piping hot and on time. A lovely festive atmosphere.
We come back here every year after visiting Marsh Farm pumpkin village. It’s so beautiful, food is delicious (best fish and chips my husband has ever had) and 10/10 service. Julia is fabulous. Highly recommend, please note the only current vegan dessert is sorbet and they will not heat baby food, but high chairs are available and they were very accommodating and welcoming of our 9 month old.
